The 2020 Jeon-ju International Photo Festival will be held for 10 days from September 25 to October 4 nearby Jeon-ju Han-ok Village, a city of traditional culture. During 13th episodes, many photographers from domestic and abroad participated, and through various genres and experimental photography, we built a small platform with local culture. However, this year's exhibition will induce safe and comfortable viewing by minimizing the face-to-face experience due to the spread of covid-19.

Originality

This year's theme. The purpose of this photography festival is to remember the original photographic art by breaking away from the evolving digital that is developing at the same time as cutting-edge science. This time, Jeon-ju International Photography Festival is going to try a new experiment. Through a small exhibition away from the large exhibition hall, artworks of experimental and challenging young photographers will awaken and stimulate the old sensibilities latent in our memories. The main exhibition will be new composition of artworks from Choi Min-sik who is 1st generation domestic documentary photographer in Korea. In addition, it is expected that photography and collaboration with the local art village will provide another pleasure to visitors, while presenting experimental artworks based on the early traditional painting techniques.

I also thank Director Jerome de Perlinghi, curators planning various themes, and photographers who entrusted us with valuable works. I would also like to thank the members of the Institute for Contemporary Photography and Culture and all the visitors for supporting the Jeonju International Photography Festival for 13 years. The steering committee will make further efforts for the development of the Jeonju International Photo Festival in the beautiful historical city of Jeonju.

2020년 전주국제사진제는 전통문화의 도시인 전주한옥마을 주변에서 9월25일부터 10월4일까지 10일간 개최합니다. 13회를 거치는 동안 국내외 많은 사진가들이 참여 하였으며, 다양한 장르와 실험적인 사진작품들을 통해 지역문화와 함께하는 작은 플랫폼을 구축하였습니다. 다만, 올해의 전시는 covid-19의 확산으로 부득이 대면을 최소화 하는 방식으로 안전하고 편안한 전시관람을 유도할 것입니다.

Originality (오리지널리티)

올해의 주제입니다. 이번 사진제의 특징은 첨단 과학과 동시에 발전되어가는 디지털에서 조금 탈피하여 원래의 초창기 사진예술을 기억해 보자는 취지로 기획하였습니다. 이번에도 전주국제사진제는 새로운 실험을 시도하려 합니다. 대형 전시장을 탈피하고 소규모 전시를 통해, 실험성 있고 도전적인 젊은 사진가들의 작품이 우리들 기억 속에 잠재되어 있는 예전의 감성을 깨우고 자극할 것입니다. 주제전으로는 국내 1세대 다큐멘터리 사진가인 고)최민식 선생의 작품세계를 새롭게 구성 할 것입니다. 아울러 초창기 전통적 인화기법에 의한 실험적 작품을 선보이는 한편 사진예술과 지역 공방예술마을과의 콜라보레이션은 관람객들에게 또 다른 즐거움을 선사할 것으로 기대합니다.
아울러, 올해 어려운 환경에도 변함없이 메그넘 회원을 포함한 세계적인 사진가들의 소중한 작품들을 준비해 주신 디렉터 Jerome De Perlinghi, 다양한 주제를 기획해준 큐레이터 여러분, 그리고 기꺼이 작품을 맡겨주신 모든 작가 분들께 감사의 마음을 전합니다. 또한 13년 동안 전주국제사진제를 지지해준 현대사진문화연구소 회원들, 그리고 관심을 가져주신 모든 분들에게도 고마움을 전합니다. 운영위원회에서는 아름다운 천년도시 전주에서 개최되는 전주국제사진제의 발전을 위해 더욱 노력하겠습니다.
