“Time is not passing without meaning”

- Artists are constantly observing the era.

rtists are immersed in their work activities with passion for work through the difficulties of the Pandemic era. Despite the unending invasion of the plague, they gather all their strengths to defend the times in their own way. With this purpose, this year's Jeonju International Photography Festival's theme "Time is not passing without meaning" is a photography festival with artists who keep, record, and predict the future. Artists come up with inspiration for work beyond the time and space and practice it immediately. With their existence, we record and observe this era and predict the future. In short, it is to find the artist’s wildness as an escape rather than an agreed exit.

This year's Jeonju Photo Festival is a respect for artists who constantly challenge themselves in uncomfortable times such as acting on their own and blocking them with their whole bodies. Eventually, we can view these as Time is not passing without meaning. This year's Photography Festival will feature vintage works by active artists at home and abroad, as well as experimental works featuring indoor and large outdoor street exhibitions and collaboration with local artists in the workshop. In addition, I would like to thank the planners, artists, steering committee members, institutions, organizations, various important people, and citizens who participated in this difficult time together.

“Time is not passing without meaning” (시간은 의미 없이 흘러가지 않는다)

- 예술가들은 끊임없이 시대를 지켜보고 있다.

작가들은 팬데믹 시대의 어려운 역경을 오히려 작업에 대한 열정으로 작품 활동에 몰입하고 있습니다. 끝날 뜻 끝나지 않은 역병들의 침공에도 온 힘을 모아 자기만의 방법으로 시대를 방어합니다. 올해 전주국제사진제의 주제 “Time is not passing without meaning” (시간은 의미 없이 흘러가지 않는다)는 이러한 취지에서 이 시대를 지키고 기록하고 미래를 예견하는 작가들과 함께하는 사진 축제입니다. 작가들은 시대와 시공간을 초월해 작업에 대한 영감을 떠올리고 곧바로 실천합니다. 바로 그들이 있기에 이 시대를 기록하고 관찰하며 미래를 예견합니다.

한마디로 합의된 출구보다는 탈출로서 작가의 야성을 찾는 것입니다. 올해의 전주포토페스티벌은 스스로 행동하고 온몸으로 막아내는 등의 불편한 시대에 끊임없이 도전해나가는 예술가들에 대한 존중입니다. 결국 모든 시간은 의미 없이 흘러가지 않는다.라고 볼수 있습니다. 올해의 사진축제는 국내외 활발하게 활동하고 있는 작가들의 빈티지 작품과 지역 출신 사진가들의 작품이 실내 및 대형 야외 스트리트 전시와 공방거리내의 지역 작가들과의 콜라보로 볼거리와 작품성을 갖춘 실험성 있는 작품들을 중심으로 전시될 것입니다. 아울러 어려운 시대에 함께 참여해 주신 기획자, 작가, 운영위원들 및 기관, 단체, 여러인사들 및 시민여러분들게 고마움을 전합니다.
